21-year-old woman was chained and beaten by her husband using the back of an axe

KOTA BARU: A 21-year-old woman was chained and beaten by her husband using the back of an axe at their home in Kampung Temusu, Limbat, here, after she refused to give RM100 to the man yesterday.

Kota Baru police chief ACP Azham Othman said in the 7 pm incident, the 26-year-old man, believed to be a drug addict, allegedly smacked his wife's head using the back of an axe before putting a metal chain around her neck and padlocked it.
"Earlier, the man asked the wife for a RM100, but when she said she had no money to give him, he hit her," Azham told Bernama when contacted here today.
He said the suspect jumped out of the window and fled the scene when police came to the house after being alerted by one member of the family.
The woman, who just gave birth to her second child two months ago, was taken to Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital for treatment and was reported to be in stable condition.
Efforts are being done to track down the suspect, Azham added.-- BERNAMA
