35 Year Old Killed and Young Brother Seriously Injured In Gang Fight After Thaipusam Celebrations in Sungai Petani

Factory worker killed in gang fight

SUNGAI PETANI: A 35-year-old factory worker died and his younger brother was seriously injured following a gang fight after the Thaipusam celebration in Jalan Pasar here.
S. Sivakumaran (pic) from Sungai Tukang was stabbed in the abdomen and died at the scene while his brother Nadarajan, in his 20s, was stabbed in the chest.
The brothers and several friends were earlier involved in a quarrel following a misunderstanding with a group of 20 youths during the Thaipusam procession on Saturday.
Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Khalil Ariffin said a fight occurred at two different locations in Jalan Pasar after the procession between mid-night and 1am yesterday.
“Three people were injured in the first fight. The second fight, which occurred 10m from the first, resulted in Siva-kumaran’s death and injuries to five others.
“The attackers were armed with knives and iron rods.
“We arrested six of them to help in investigations,” he said yesterday.
ACP Khalil said police also arrested a youth shortly after midnight for allegedly firing a shot during the same celebration.
