KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk R. Ramanan has vacated his position as the MIC treasurer-general following a High Court decision against him in a civil case.
Ramanan said that in view of the High Court's decision, he would step down from his position until he had cleared his name.
"I don't think that my president should be burdened because of what the High Court has decided in this civil case," he said today at the MIC headquarters.
The High Court on Thursday, ordered Ramanan to return RM5.5 million to psychiatrist Tan Sri Dr M. Mahadevan, which he had fraudulently received from the Defence ministry when "assisting" the psychiatrist to recover the payment, four years ago.
"I want to do the honourable thing," he said, adding that he would park the RM5.5million in a joint account between his and the psychiatrist's solicitors, as a measure of good faith.
