KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Nicol David won the inaugural Tournament of Champions women's title in New York yesterday after an impressive display in the final against England's Laura Massaro.

World No 1 Nicol's 11-4, 13-11, 11-8 win in 45 minutes came in her first event of the year, extending her unbeaten run to 35 matches since her last defeat in May 2013, incidentally by Massaro in the British Open final.

Nicol, whose win was her 72nd career WSA Tour title, said she was overcome with joy after her victory at the iconic Grand Central Terminal.

"I'm just so thrilled to be at the Grand Central Terminal and to see so many people coming out to watch women's squash is just so fantastic," said Nicol, 30, after the prize presentation ceremony.

"It's my first time ever and I hope to make this an annual thing and look forward to be back next year."
