PETALING JAYA: Defending Super League champions Lions XII are back in business.
The Singaporeans, who went down 1-0 to Pahang in the Charity Shield in Kuantan on Jan 17, bounced back with a 2-1 win over Selangor at the Jalan Besar Stadium last night to preserve their unbeaten home record.
Last season, the Lions were undefeated at home all season with an impressive 10 wins and a draw en route to winning the Super League title.
Striker Khairul Amri was the hero for the Lions on Saturday night, scoring a last-gasp winner in the 94th minute of stoppage time.
The homesters led through Shakir Hamzah’s goal in the 44th minute but the Red Giants fought back with Mohd Fitri Shazwan Raduwan scoring the equaliser in the 57th minute.
At the Sultan Ismail Stadium in Kuala Terengganu, Brazilian defender Fabio Flor scored a late winner for T-Team to upset star-studded Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) 1-0.
The JDT side had only themselves to blame for the defeat as they squandered numerous chances with Argentinian striker Luciano Figueroa missing at least half-a-dozen sitters.
T-Team goalkeeper Mohd Shahril Shaari was also outstanding between the posts, making crucial saves and denying Luciano on several occasions. Luciano also had a shot come off the post in the 61st minute.
T-Team were also guilty of poor finishing with Indonesian striker Patrich Wanggai and Brazilian striker Edvaldo Goncalves the main culprits.
Newly-promoted Sime Darby FC recorded their first win in the top flight when they edged Malaysia Cup champions Pahang 1-0 at the Selayang Stadium.
The club side, who lost to Kelantan 2-1 in the opening game, scored the winning goal through Fahrul Razi in the 50th minute
