Young singer bags coveted Best Song and Best Performance at one of Malaysia’s premier music events.
FORMER Akademi Fantasia winner Hafiz Suip took home the main prize for Best Song at the 28th edition of Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL) last night.
The event held at Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur saw Hafiz taking home a trophy and cash prize worth RM35,000 for his heart-wrenching ballad Bahagiamu Deritaku.

The song, composed by LY and Baiduri, is a single from Hafiz’s latest album Luahan Hati Anak Seni. The 23-year-old singer from Kuching, Sarawak, also took home the prize for Best Performance.
Rock group Hyper Act, led by vocalist Shahron Hussein or Ronnie, came in second with the song Hanya Aku. The rock ballad penned by the band and lyricist Frozen earned them a trophy and cash prize worth RM15,000.

Awi Rafael and Altimet won third place for their hip-hop number Kalau Aku Kaya. The duo clinched a trophy and cash prize worth RM12,000 for the song composed by Altimet, Audi K and Omar K.

For the Best Vocal Performance category, Jaclyn Victor won for her rendition of Ikut Rentakku. Jaclyn also broke Hafiz’s three-year winning streak for the award.
The glittering event saw 12 songs compete for the main prize including Salammusik’sAku Pelat, Stacy’s Bosan, Azlan & The Typewriter’s Tanda Tanya and Noh Salleh’sIn Love With You. Songs were chosen based on their performances on the Muzik Muzik weekly chart, a music programme on TV3.
For AJL, a panel of judges and viewer votes determined the winners. This year’s panel of esteemed judges included composers Azmeer, Helen Yap, Habsah Hassan and Edrie Hashim.
The event also saw performances by Shila Amzah, Mus May, W.A.R.I.S, Datuk M. Daud Kilau and Amy Search.
