KUALA LUMPUR: The status of the People's Progressive Party (MyPPP) to be readmitted as a component party of Barisan Nasional (BN) will be determined in the upcoming BN Supreme Council Meeting.

BN chairman, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said, for now the status of MyPPP is still a party and friend that supports BN.

"With the takeover of the party by the new leadership currently held by the Acting President, Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan, this matter will be discussed in the upcoming BN Supreme Council meeting to look again.

"Not only the appeal but the decision made by the court against the validity of MyPPP," he said.

He said this at a press conference after officiating the MyPPP General Assembly at the Kuala Lumpur Trade Center (WTCKL) here on Sunday.

Ahmad Zahid said, BN in the meantime will re-examine the appeal made by the new leadership to return with BN.

"The decision of the BN Supreme Council is subject to the vote recorded in the constitution and must be made unanimously, so we can overcome it through discussion among the leadership.

"We are sure that all party presidents are very sympathetic to what the court decided and the appeals that have been made," he said.

The Registrar of Societies Department (RoS) deregistered MyPPP on 14 January 2019 after leadership turmoil between the late Datuk Seri Maglin Dennis D'Cruz and Tan Sri M Kayveas.

The five-year crisis ended on April 11 last year after the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) approved MyPPP's appeal against the deregistration and confirmed the validity of the MyPPP Supreme Council held on March 19, 2023 which elected D'Cruz as President.
