SEPANG: New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon arrived in Malaysia today for a three-day official visit until Tuesday (Sept 3).

This is Luxon's first visit to Malaysia since assuming the office of Prime Minister in November 2023.

The commercial plane carrying Luxon landed at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA Terminal 1) here and was greeted by Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong at Bunga Raya Complex here at 7.55pm.

As soon as he arrived, he was given a local honor guard by the 1st Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment.

Wisma Putra in a statement today informed that Luxon will be given an official welcome ceremony at Perdana Putra Complex, Putrajaya, followed by a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tomorrow.

The two leaders are expected to discuss issues related to bilateral relations and cooperation under the Malaysia-New Zealand Strategic Partnership signed in 2023, covering four pillars: Prosperity, People, Planet, and Peace and Security.

Wisma Putra informed that the Prime Minister will also celebrate Luxon and the delegation in a luncheon at Kompleks Seri Perdana.

Luxon will also hold a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

In 2023, New Zealand was Malaysia's 28th largest trading partner, 22nd export destination and 27th largest import source among countries in the Oceania region.

The total trade between Malaysia and New Zealand is RM11.56 billion (USD2.54 billion).
