GEORGE TOWN: MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong asked all party members to be ready to support Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates in the six state elections next month.
He said even if MCA decided not to participate in the State Election (PRN) this time, members of the party should be ready to cooperate with the candidates from BN.
"We in a coalition in the establishment of the Unity Government must carry out the responsibility to ensure the victory of the BN candidates in the next PRN," he told reporters after officiating the Penang MCA annual convention here today.
He reiterated the party's stance not to contest in the PRN this time to focus on its preparations for the 16th General Election.
Penang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu will face the PRN on August 12 after the Election Commission (SPR) announced last week that the PRN in the six states will be held simultaneously while the candidate nomination date is on July 29 and early voting on August 8.
Meanwhile, Dr Wee who is also the Member of Parliament for Ayer Hitam advised all voters in the states involved in the PRN to vote wisely so that their representatives can bring grassroots voices and be able to make the necessary changes.
