IPOH: A mechanic lost RM200,000 after being threatened by a female acquaintance of his on social media, to spread a video recording of an obscene action.

Perak Police Chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said, his side received a report from the victim, a 30-year-old man, at about 1.49pm yesterday.

According to him, as a result of the interrogation, it was found that the victim knew the suspect through Facebook by using the name 'Yaya'.

"The suspect then asked the victim to receive a video call with the excuse of wanting to show something special.

"After receiving the call, the victim saw the suspect was naked and performing a passionate act," he said in a statement here today.

Mohd Yusri said that the victim who was affected by the action also stripped and did indecent things with the suspect.

According to him, the victim did not realize that his actions had been recorded by the suspect.

He said the victim only realized the matter after the suspect sent the recording immediately after ending the call.

"The victim was threatened to give money to the suspect and the victim then transferred money 38 times through online banking to five different owners' accounts," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code.

Mohd Yusri advises the public not to be easily influenced by individuals who have just met through social media as they can be influenced to do unexpected things, and then become victims of extortion.
