JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor government's efforts to dispel congestion at the Johor Embankment here and Linkedua in Iskandar Puteri succeeded in saving at least two hours of travel time, said Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

He said the achievement was the result of the combined efforts of all parties which saw the operation of the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) here and the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) in Iskandar Puteri getting better.

He said previously the congestion caused the journey to enter the state to take four hours.

"Thanks to the collective energy from all parties, to some extent we have managed to help reduce congestion and travel time by at least two hours.

"Therefore, I hope that at the end of this year we can save another hour at least," he said when speaking at the Key Handover Ceremony for the Tanjung Senibong Type C Affordable House at the Tanjung Senibong Apartments here today.

Also present was the state Housing and Local Government Committee Chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor.

Onn Hafiz said the positive development also helped in driving the economy and increasing the confidence of investors and tourists.

He said the real estate sector has also had a positive impact and is expected to grow within one or two years, thereby helping the state government overcome the issue of unsold real estate dumping.

Meanwhile, he said the state government has set a new target to build 30,000 units of affordable housing by 2026 compared to the 21,702 units targeted previously.

According to Onn Hafiz, the target is in line with progress and good cooperation between the developer and the Johor State Housing Development Corporation (PKPJ) as well as local authorities in addition to the high demand factor.

He said the construction of affordable houses is expected not only to be concentrated in Johor Bahru, but also other districts such as Mersing, Segamat, Batu Pahat and Kota Tinggi.
