KUALA LUMPUR: Former coach of the national football team, B Sathianathan was reported to have died on Tuesday.

The sad news was shared by FIFA Media Officer who is also a former Member of the Executive Committee of the Malaysian Football Association, Christopher Raj.

"Rest in peace, Anna. You have fought well," said Chris on his Twitter page just now.



The deceased was reported to have died at the age of 65 and it is understood that the deceased died after a year of fighting cancer.

The deceased was the head coach of Harimau Malaya from 2007 to 2009.

Prior to that, the deceased also guided the national U-23 squad from 2006-2008 with the success of winning the Merdeka Football Festival in 2007 and becoming runner-up in 2008.

In addition, the late also led Kelantan to the Malaysia Cup in 2010 in addition to guiding ATM and Felda United to win the Premier League in 2012 and 2018 respectively.

He was also crowned as the best coach in the 2017 National Football Awards (ABK2017).

Previously, Sathianathan had been reported to be unwell and suffering from heart problems.

Following that, he no longer manages any team in the Malaysian League.

On the other hand, he appeared a lot in the live broadcast of Super League matches on Astro and his physique was seen to be getting thinner.

In October last year, through media reports, Sathianathan stated that he had fully recovered and was ready to return to coaching.

According to him, the attending physician informed him that he has recovered, based on the latest health report conducted on him.
