GEORGE TOWN: The government will examine internal regulations to deal with the issue of the dress code set for the public when dealing in government offices, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Legal and Institutional Reform), Ramkarpal Singh.
He said, the government needs to look into the matter seriously because it can cause tension in the multi-racial community in this country.
"The government should also look at ways to regulate dress code so that it is uniform to avoid contradictions in different states," he told reporters, here, on Saturday.
Recently, it was reported that the Islamic City of Kota Bharu Municipal Council (MPKB) levied a compound against a non-Muslim female trader for wearing shorts up to the groin in her business premises.
However, MPKB agreed to cancel the compound against the 35-year-old woman after a discussion session was held with the Director General, Local Government Department (JKT), Datuk Mohd Fadzli Mohd Kenali.
Meanwhile, it was reported that a member of the Volunteer Department (RELA) working at the office of the Penang Social Security Organization (PERKESO) was allegedly trying to prevent a non-Muslim woman wearing a skirt from entering the office last Wednesday. - BERNAMA
