PUTRAJAYA: The Cabinet has decided that the process of repatriating travelers who have been denied entry (NTL) to the country will be managed by the airline without involving third parties.

Home Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, said the decision made by the Cabinet was in line with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) convention.

He explained that, according to ICAO, airlines are responsible for managing the repatriation of NTL travelers, including covering the cost of food and drink as well as flight tickets.

"So the Cabinet today agreed for the repatriation process to be managed by the airline, without going through a third party.

"This means that this is in line with the Immigration Act 1959/1963 and in line with ICAO, which clearly mentions that they are the parties that should take responsibility.

"When a traveler wants to depart from the last location, the airline is responsible before he issues a 'boarding pass'.

"The airline has to know the status of the traveler whether he has a return ticket and then can issue a 'boarding pass' . That is a normal process at the international level," he said in a special media conference here on Wednesday.
