Afdlin received the letter of appointment from the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh

KUALA LUMPUR: ACTOR and director, Datuk Afdlin Shauki recorded another new achievement in his artistic profile when he was appointed as a Member of the Advisory Board of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) starting July 7.

The appointment also saw  Afdlin Shauki Aksan become the first artist to hold the position.

Commenting on his appointment, Afdlin said he was surprised when he was asked to send a curriculum vitae to DBKL, before being offered the position as a Member of the Advisory Board.

In addition to Afdlin, there are 10 other new members appointed to the advisory board to offer advice to the Kuala Lumpur Mayor.

"I think this is the trust given by the government to artists like me.

"I believe that my appointment can help give understanding to DBKL regarding the problems of artists involving performances, whether singing or live programs.

"Kuala Lumpur is also one of the locations with the most artistic workers. So I hope this city can become an art hub so that we can attract more young people to join the art industry, not only in front of the scenes, but also behind the scenes," he told Sinar Harian.

Hoping to turn the capital city into an art center hub, the 52-year-old figure explained that even though Kuala Lumpur is already known in the eyes of the world, it is not wrong to introduce this city as an art city.

"If we look at foreign countries, there are cities that they have turned into art hubs to attract more tourists and why not for us to do the same in Kuala Lumpur.

"We may be able to organize various international art festivals or other activities that are interesting not only for local citizens, but also for tourists," he explained.

In the meantime, when asked if his involvement would pave the way for Afdlin to step into the political world, the Papadom star had his own answer.

"Right now I don't want to be a politician and want to focus on this task first. However, for the future, I'm not sure," he said simply.

Meanwhile, sharing about his art career, Afdlin said, he is still active and this new position does not limit his career.

"God willing my film, Baik Punya Along will be released early next year and I will also direct another new film in the near future.

"Although this is a new job, but it does not interfere with my art career and I will go to the office if needed because it is not a permanent job," he explained.
