 Azam Baki reappointed Chief Commissioner of MACC




PUTRAJAYA: Tan Sri Azam Baki was reappointed as Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), effective today Friday.


The matter was informed by the Chief Secretary, Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali in a statement 


He said Azam's re-appointment was for a period of one year and was approved by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.


"In accordance with subsection 5(1) and (2) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 (Act 694), the Yang di-Pertuan Agong approved the re-appointment of Tan Sri Azam Baki as MACC Chief Commissioner.


"The appointment is for a period of one year effective May 12, 2023," he said.


Azam, who was born on 12 May 1963 in Negeri Sembilan, started his career at the Anti-Corruption Agency (now known as MACC) in 1984.


Azam's first position in the body was assistant investigation officer, in addition to having served as an intelligence officer, prosecution officer, in addition to carrying out side duties in community education activities.


He assumed the position of MACC Chief Commissioner on 9 May 2020, replacing Latheefa Beebi Koya, who took the decision to shorten his service contract in accordance with subsection 5(3) of the MACC Act 2009.


Azam held the position during the administration of three Prime Ministers namely Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.


Azam holds a diploma in Electrical Engineering (Power) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), a Law Degree (Jurisprudence) from Universiti Malaya and a master's degree from Asia E-University.
