KOTA KINABALU: A Chief Minister who is alone without any certainty as to whether he has the support of the majority of the Sabah State Assembly Members, must resign as stated in Article 6(7) of the Sabah State Constitution.

Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said that Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who left the party, was disqualified as Chief Minister of Sabah when he and the line of assemblymen and leaders left Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

According to him, it is as stated in Article 6(3), read with Article 6(7) of the Sabah State Constitution, which states that the Chief Minister must be from the leader of the party that gets the majority of seats in the 16th Sabah State Election in 2020.

Asked whether Hajiji, who is also the Sulaman assemblyman, should resign, Mohd Shafie said he had to follow the law and described Hajiji as knowing about it.

"For now, it is not necessary to state who has support, but leave it to the legislation.

"Regarding that, Sabah TYT Tun Juhar Mahiruddin has the power to resolve this political crisis," he said at a press conference at the Warisan Headquarters here today.
