PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad resigned as Minister of Higher Education with immediate effect.
She said, as the UMNO Women's Leader, she abided by the decision of the UMNO Supreme Council (SC) on August 3 which withdrew support for PN and the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the Prime Minister for giving me the opportunity to serve as the Minister of Higher Education in the Federal Government.
“I believe, we have tried our best in managing the country in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic that has affected human lives around the world. I will continue this effort even though I am no longer a Federal Cabinet Minister, ”he said in a statement today.
At the same time, she thanked all parties, especially the staff of the Ministry of Higher Education and all stakeholders related to the ministry who helped a lot in carrying out his duties.
Noraini's resignation saw her become the second minister from UMNO to do so after the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Datuk Seri Dr. Shamsul Anuar who resigned as a member of the Federal Government Cabinet.
