KOTA BHARU, May 25 -- Kelantan recorded 97 deaths from COVID-19 between January and yesterday, State Director of Health Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said today.
He said the cumulative number of deaths in the state from the disease was 104 since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country in January last year.
“The number of deaths from the disease has been rising lately. In the past two weeks, the average daily number of deaths has been four, either at government hospitals or the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Kerian.
"Many of those who died had risk factors. We will step up treatment and hope that the people will comply with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) so as not to infect others or get infected themselves,” he told reporters after looking at the preparations for setting up the 11th Low Risk COVID-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centre at the Kelantan Culture and Arts Department Complex in Tanjung Chat, here.
Dr Zaini said the centre was reserved for women, making it the third health facility for women after similar centres in Tanah Merah and Pengkalan Chepa.
“We are preparing the auditorium at the complex to accommodate 220 patients. Kelantan now has 1,726 COVID-19 patients at such centres, which have 2,044 beds, throughout the state,” he said.
