More mega PPVs in Klang Valley to expand vaccine dispensing capacity - Khairy

KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 -- Several more mega-sized vaccination centres (PPVs) will be set up in the Klang Valley to expand the capacity of dispensing vaccine from June 7.
National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said three mega PPVs would be put up in Selangor and two more in Kuala Lumpur.
“The COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) has decided to raise the capacity of vaccination in the Klang Valley. I have already informed the Selangor Menteri Besar.
“In Selangor, we have three mega PPVs at The Mines, Puncak Alam UiTM and Setia City Convention Centre while in Kuala Lumpur, they are at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and the compound of the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil,” he said after visiting the PPV at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) today.
Khairy said more vaccination stations and halls would be opened at the PPV in MITEC which will be starting operation tomorrow to launch mega-scale dispensing of vaccine.
He said the daily vaccination capacity for the PPV at MITEC tomorrow is more than 2,000 but he is targeting the location to accommodate more than 6,000 shots per day.
He said he would be going to Penang and Johor next week to discuss opening mega PPV in the two states.
On drive-through vaccination, Khairy said he would be issuing the order and guidelines tomorrow to all states which want to implement the system.
Khairy said several states have already requested for approval to carry out system following encouraging response to the pilot drive-through vaccination project at Universiti Sains Malaysia Kubang Kerian, Kelantan.
"I will give instructions tomorrow following the successful pilot study. Other states can also implement the drive-thru, but I have requested for 24 hours (to give out) the guidelines.
"We must have safety guidelines in place. Not just drive-through, jab and go home. Need to have observation period. It's a good idea and we have thought about it," he said.
1,000 GP clinics, private hospitals to start administering vaccines by June 30

KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 -- The government is targeting to designate 1,000 general practitioner (GP) clinics and private hospitals as vaccination centres (PPVs), to start administering vaccines before June 30.
National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin, said this would enable these PPVs to administer the vaccine, with a target of about 40,000 doses a day subject to vaccine supply.
“This is our target for private clinics (and hospitals), subject to vaccine supply. Previously, there was no need for private clinics and hospitals to be involved with the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme because the supply of vaccines was not plentiful.
“After this, when the supply of vaccines has increased, we want to facilitate private clinics and hospitals to administer vaccines through our programme for free,” he said after visiting the PPV at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) today.
Khairy said that, to date, a total of 1,800 out of 2,500 registered GPs had undergone training with ProtectHealth Corporation Sdn Bhd (ProtectHealth), before opening their respective PPVs.
On the issue of prospective pilgrims who have been vaccinated with the Sinovac vaccine, he said that the government would discuss with the Saudi Arabian government, to give flexibility to the group.
This is because Saudi Arabia currently only approves those administered with the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines to enter the country.
He said that prospective pilgrims (under Tabung Haji) who have yet to be inoculated will be administered with the Pfizer vaccine.
“I have also sought advice from our expert committee, if someone is injected with Sinovac can this person be injected again with Pfizer. I have yet to get an answer,” he said.
In the meantime, Khairy also announced that a new feature in the MySejahtera application will be added, to allow users who receive the wrong date for the AstraZeneca vaccine appointment to cancel or change to a new date.
500 GPs will begin vaccination on 15th June and 1,000 GPs by end of June. This also means by then, GPs and private hospitals would be able to administer 40,000 doses of vaccine per day.
We also have piloted the drive-thru vaccination at HUSM Kubang Kerian recently and it was successful. We’ve received applications from other states who are interested to do the same. We are fine tuning the guidelines to implement this.
