PETALING JAYA: The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at the residential area of Penempatan Sentosa Timur Fasa 2, Sarawak, will end tomorrow as scheduled, after a downward trend in new positive cases. However, the EMCO at two villages in Nabawan, Sabah, will be extended until March 26.

In a statement today, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the health ministry recorded only 13 positive Covid-19 cases after tests on 1,311 residents at Penempatan Sentosa Timur Fasa 2 in Sibu.

According to Ismail, the decision to extend the EMCO at Kampung Sinsingon and Kampung Lotong in Nabawan was made after the health ministry said results from 322 samples were still pending, and new cases were still being reported in the locality. The EMCO was initially supposed to end on Saturday.

Of the 674 residents screened so far in the locality, 81 tested positive.

Meanwhile, Ismail said 242 people were arrested by the police yesterday over MCO-related offences, with 240 issued compounds and two remanded.

Most of the offences, he said, were failing to provide materials for contact tracing registration (88).

Other offences included failing to wear a face mask (66), taking part in activities which made physical distancing difficult (46) and crossing districts or states without permission (33).

Meanwhile, a total of 3,623 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks on 46,988 supermarkets, places of worship, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, water and air transport terminals.

The authorities also detained 26 undocumented migrants and confiscated four vehicles and one boat as part of the ongoing Op Benteng campaign.

On mandatory home quarantine, Ismail said 141,294 people who arrived through KLIA were screened for Covid-19 from July 24 to March 10 and placed under quarantine.

Some 1,010 tested positive and were sent to hospitals for treatment, while 133,329 have been allowed to return home.

Another 6,955 people are undergoing mandatory quarantine.
