KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 -- The Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will call up the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) to clarify issues related to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) subsidy management.

Chairman Wong Kah Woh, said the PAC was not satisfied with the feedback submitted by the ministry through the Ministry of Finance regarding the duration of the study on targeted subsidies which would only be completed in the third quarter of next year.

"The PAC is of the view that the timeline is too long and if we were to wait for this study to be completed in 2021 third quarter, then this issue may not be resolved in the next two, three years.

"As such, the PAC has decided to call up the ministry to provide further clarification on the timeline and we are not going to give them such a long time as we do no not want leakages of national funds or LPG subsidies to continue, as reported previously,” he told reporters at Parliament building, today.

Prior to this the Auditor General's Report 2018 found that the government had incurred losses amounting to RM1.71 billion from 2015 to 2017 due to the use of government-subsidised LPG cylinders by consumers who are not from the target social categories.

Wong said the PAC would also be calling the Chairman of the Special Committee on Procurement, Governance and Finance, Tan Sri Ambrin Buang next week, to provide information on land swap deals involving the Defence Ministry and the Ministry of Transport before deciding whether or not to start proceedings over the issue.

Meanwhile, Wong informed that two Barisan Nasional members of Parliament Datuk Hasbullah Osman (Gerik) and Ramli Mohd Nor (Cameron Highlands) have been selected as PAC members today to replace Tan Sri Noh Omar (Tanjung Karang) and Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan (Pontian).
