Temple fracas: 55 remanded to help in probe

Police have urged witnesses to come forward to help in the probe on the violent protest at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple.PETALING JAYA: The Magistrate’s Court today issued remand orders for 11 individuals to facilitate the probe into the violent protest at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple.
The remand order will see the 11 detained between two to seven days.
Magistrate Nor Ariffin Hisham issued the remand order on the 11 suspects, aged 18 to 50 years.
This brings the total number of people remanded over the incident to 55.
Meanwhile, eight other suspects had their remand extended by another three days.
In the incident early on Monday last week, 23 vehicles were torched while the One City shopping centre suffered damages after a protest over the relocation of the temple took an ugly turn.
Meanwhile, police are also tracking down 28 witnesses to facilitate investigations.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd urged all witnesses to come forward to cooperate with the police.
He said those with information should contact the Selangor CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat at 019-6000903 and Subang Jaya district police headquarters’ CID division chief DSP G Shan Gopal at 019-2714387 or the nearest police station.
“Cooperation from all parties to assist in the investigations is highly appreciated,” he said in a statement.
Earlier today, Inspector-General of Police Fuzi Harun said 68 people had been arrested so far in connection with the violent protest.
