KUALA LUMPUR: Former 1MDB executive director Arul Kanda Kandasamy has arrived at the Sessions Court here where he is expected to be charged in connection with claims that the audit report of the state investment fund was tampered with.

Arul arrived in a Honda Odyssey at 8.05am, dressed in a black suit and accompanied by officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Former prime minister Najib Razak, who is likely to face charges as well, is expected to arrive soon.

This follows Auditor-General Madinah Mohamad’s statement on Nov 24 that Najib and his former private secretary Shukry Salleh gave orders for the 1MDB audit report to be amended.

She said mention of businessman Low Taek Jho’s presence at a 1MDB board meeting and a paragraph containing two versions of the 1MDB financial statement for the year ended 2014 were removed.

According to Madinah, former chief secretary to the government Ali Hamsa, former auditor-general Ambrin Buang, and Arul were also involved.

Both Najib and Arul have been grilled by the MACC over the matter, with Najib questioned for several hours on Dec 6. He was arrested by the MACC on Monday after being called for further questioning.

Ambrin and former MACC chief Dzulkifli Ahmad have also been called in for questioning over the report.
