WhatsApp will be expanding on its video call functionality, with plans to introduce a group video call option.

WhatsApp director Mubarik Imam announced during Facebook's annual F8 developer conference that the popular messaging service is also getting several other changes including stickers and business-focused app features.

According to The Verge, she did not go into detail about how group video calls will work, but from the example video sighted, it appears that calls will allow four people to simultaneously participate.

Considering WhatsApp is commonly used for its group chats, the move appears to be a logical extension of the solo video call function introduced several years ago.

Imam reveals that WhatsApp now has over 450 million daily users, and over two billion minutes of video and audio calls are made through the app each day.

As for stickers, WhatsApp is finally introducing the feature that was already on its sister service Facebook Messenger plus competitors like Line and WeChat. In addition, WhatsApp will be allowing third parties to develop their own collections of stickers.

The Verge speculates that while the service launched WhatsApp For Business on Android earlier this year and continues to remain free, the app may begin to charge large brands for additional perks to help reach more customers and monetise the service.
