JOHOR BARU: Four masked men took just three minutes to storm a goldsmith outlet at a shopping centre here last night and cart off RM130,000 worth of jewellery.
The brazen robbery at the Bandar Dato Onn mall occurred at the height of the shopping period at 7.23pm, and was witnessed by dozens of stunned shoppers.
A mobile phone video clip capturing a portion of the incident has gone viral on social media.
The heist was carried out with lightning speed by the four men who appear to have been armed with several objects, including two hammers to break the glass display cases and a weapon resembling a gun to ward off security.
"No shots were fired at the scene and no injury was reported," said Johor Baru Selatan District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Shahurinain Jais.
He said the burglary took place while the outlet’s security guard was taking a restroom break – leaving four salesmen manning the counters.
"(By the time the) security guard came out of the restroom, all the suspects had fled," Shahurinain said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code.
