The Royale Chulan Hotel Kuala Lumpur (RCKL) is famous for it's Ramadhan Buka Puasa Buffet, this year their buka puasa buffet is themed Citarasa Nusantara Iftar Ramadan 2018. It is "Halal" certified so Muslims can dine at peace.
In fact two hotels in KL that are usually mentioned in the same breath for having some of the best and most varieties of Malay cuisine, that is Royale Chulan Hotel Kuala Lumpur and Istana Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
AMBIANCE
The Citarasa Nusantara Iftar Ramadan 2018 offering certainly lived up to expectations. From the time you enter, diners are greeted by very the friendly staff and Management of the hotel. Look out for their friendly and charismatic General Manager Kamaruddin who is always on the ground with his team taking care of guests.
Walking into the Majestic Mahsuri Courtyard gives you the feeling as if you are attending Kenduri in a village of some sort, with the sounds of the waterfall on your right and the trees' that surround the courtyard.
The courtyard is surrounded with more than 25 food stalls.Along the entrance there is about another 8 stalls .
As usual it is humanly impossible to try all the food here in one sitting, that is why for our reviews and judging we usually have 4 reviewers.
As you enter the Mahsuri courtyard you can see the chefs hot at work putting the final touches to the majestic looking whole roast lamb.
LIVE COOKING STATIONS
At RCKL they have more live cooking stalls as part of their buffet. I prefer this style as food is made fresh and you get it still warm unlike food that is laid out on counters.
As the time to break fast came, we had some sirap silaseh and dates.
We started with trying out the Lamb, i asked for the well done parts and when trying it out, all the reviewers went speechless. It was one of the best Roast Lamb we had. You had a choice of mushroom and black pepper sauces to accompany the lamb.
We decided to try the Satay the Chicken and Beef Satay next and it was really good and tasty. It had a nice char to it on the outside, succulent on the inside with peanut sauce that tasty too.
The Ayam percik serai wangi and otak-otak was also quite good, since it was placed weirdly beside the satay counter we tried that after we had the satay.
We then decided to wash down the meats and try some soup so we had the RCKL Bubur Lambuk, it was full of flavor and ingredients. We washed down the bubur lambuk in minutes. Great Bubur Lambuk here folks!
If you like breads or rolls with your soup they had different types of breads available.
We then tried the differet roti canai's from the Mamak Alee Roti Corner, they had and the murtabak with dhall and chicken curries. You will be spoilt for choice with the different roti flavors they had, from roti milo to roti telor to roti sardine.
At the Indian Stalls they had Masala Tosai, Cheese Naan, Tandoori Lamb, Fish and Chicken Thikka and everything was delicious.
We then tried the Pass & Sembor, that floored us. Some call it a high class rojak since it has more ingredients than a normal rojak but whatever you call it the Pass & Sembor at RCKL is one of the best in town! With Crab, Prawns in the Rojak. It was one of the best dishes of the night.
One of the must try items here is the Kuey Teow and Mee Goreng, it was simply one of the best in town.
We then tasted the fare from the Bakar -Bakar, the grilled crabs, prawns, squid and cockles or kerang.
The reviewers favourite was prawns cooked in oats. it was unanimous that this was one of the must try dishes.
The Ikan Bakar section was great ....with diffrent types of fish, prawns, crabs and mussels. All were marinated well, full of flavor and delicious. They have a wide variety of fishes you can choose from for the chefs to prepare.
At the Lemang and Rendang stall. They had pulut kuning, chicken and beef rendang, serunding , ketupat and lemang. The rendang, serunding and Lemang all were super delicious.
The chicken rice stall was another very popular stall with the diners.
Then one of the managers asked us to try their MAPAIU burger, so we did and i was surprised it was one of the best burgers i had in a long time, with cheese melted inside and outside the burger
If you want really tasty traditional kampung food there is no doubt that this is one of the places to be with their nasi briyani and putih, ayam masak merah, sambal paru, sotong with capsicum, chicken currry, kari ikan,
For those who love vegetables, they had a tasty mix vegetable dish with tasty brocolli,
At the Lok Lok stall, diners were again spoilt for choice with a dozen different ingredients.
For those who like Arabic cuisine they has a Shawarma stall and Nasi Citarasa Pak Arab
The Laksa Johor and mutton was another popular item from the Aneka Buyung Stall

DESSERTS
When it came to the dessert section, it was like as if you walked into a wonderland of colors.
The Desserts were simply amazing, every single item was delicious. They had aneka kuih muih melayu, hidangan pencuci antarabangsa and even a counter with citarasa mat salleh.
At the bubur section you must try the Bubur Nangka it was simply amazing and my favourite dish of the night.
Their ABC stall is a sight to behold every year, with one of the most condiments.
The Local seasonal fruits counter had a good variety of seasonal Malaysian fruits
At the drink stall you have lots of choice for cold drinks with 3 flavors of cold drinks such as air cendol, lai chi kang and asam boi. For hot drinks they had nescafe tarikand teh tarik.
Now to wash all that down head to ABC section or shaved Ice section where you will be surely overwhelemed to see over 200 condiments for their ABC.
