PETALING JAYA: A viral video of a man getting electrocuted atop a high voltage transmission tower did not happen in front of the Asia Jaya LRT station.

The harrowing one-minute-20-second video is making the rounds on social media, with people claiming that it happened in Petaling Jaya on Saturday (May 26).

While there are a row of high voltage transmission towers along the Asia Jaya LRT line, a quick search on Google Maps show that the design of the transmission towers here differ from the one in the video.

A further search revealed that the deadly incident happened on May 16 in the city of Barranquilla, Colombia.

UK portal Metro reported that the victim was a 20-year-old deaf man by the name of Victor Jose Arroyo Gonzalez.

Gonzalez, who was suffering from depression, had reportedly scaled the tower and threatened to throw himself off before police and onlookers talked him out of it.

However on his way down, he accidentally touched a live wire and was electrocuted before falling down to the ground.

Metro reported that Gonzalez was declared dead at the scene.

It added that the disturbing video was captured by witnesses down below in the Los Olivos area of the city.
