MACC raids Jeffrey Kitingan's home

Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan. ― Picture by Saw Siow FengKOTA KINABALU, May 22 — Anti-graft authorities raided the home of Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan last night.
A source in the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed the incident but declined to comment further.
The source also believed the raid was in connection with the recently concluded GE14, where Jeffrey, whose party won two state seats was inadvertently the “kingmaker” in deciding whether it was a Barisan Nasional or a Parti Warisan Sabah-Pakatan Harapan government.
Jeffrey ultimately decided to work with the BN, giving them a 31-seat majority out of 60 seats, amidst rumours that he was paid RM20 million and offered a deputy chief minister post in the BN state government.
Sabah BN chairman Tan Sri Musa Aman was later sworn in as chief minister on May 10, but two days and six defections from BN later, Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal was sworn in.
Meanwhile, a party member said that the MACC had also raided Bingkor assemblyman Robert Tawik’s home as well as their STAR office last night, and asked Jeffrey to go to the MACC office to give a statement.
“They were at his house in Likas around 12.00 midnight last night and at our office, around 10.30pm last night.
“I was told they took some money, about RM80,000 but could not find a link between that the the RM20 million so-called bribe money,” said the party source, adding that he heard other supreme council members also had their homes raided.
“Several of us were asked to go to the MACC office and were asked about the party’s finances,” he said.
