ALOR SETAR: The grave of five-year-old Nur Aliya Syifa Murad who died tragically last Friday was exhumed on Monday (Oct 30) after police obtained the court approval to do so.
Nur Aliya died when a fragment of an angle grinder used by her father to sharpen his grass cutter’s blade pierced her left chest at a house in Mukim Kubang Rotan here about 5.30pm on Oct 27.
Kedah Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said police are investigating the case under Section 304A of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence.
Thus, he said, they have to exhume the grave as part of the investigation.
The offence under Section 304A carries a maximum jail sentence of two years or a fine or both.
The exhuming process at the Masjid Nurul Ehsan Muslim Burial ground, Kampung Masjid, Kubang Rotan, started about 9.25am and ended about 11am.
Also present were police personnel, a forensics team and family members.
The body was then taken to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for postmortem.
“We have recorded the statement from the father and after the investigation is completed, we will submit investigation papers to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action,” said SAC Mior.
