Sabah PKR chief Liew is new state Pakatan chairman
KOTA KINABALU: Pakatan Harapan has named Sabah PKR chief Christina Liew (pic) as its state chairman and announced a separate election manifesto for Sabah and Sarawak.
Pakatan Harapan chief secretary Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah also named state DAP chief Datuk Stephen Wong and Amanah Sabah chairman Hamza Abdullah as her deputies.
He said appointments to other portfolios would be announced later.
On the manifesto for Sabah and Sarawak, Saifuddin said it would be framed under the Malaysia Agreement and the Federal Constitution.
The manifesto, he added, would be formulated by the Pakatan chairmen of both states and focus on issues specific to Sabah and Sarawak.
Asked about the possibility of Sabahans turning their backs on Pakatan in light of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad being its national chairman, Saifuddin said that this was unlikely to happen.
“What happened in the past can be forgiven. Our focus now is to replace the current government,” he said.
“I’m certain that like other Malaysians, Sabahans are reasonable and practical.”
Mahathir had been blamed by some people as being responsible for the inflow of foreigners into Sabah
Meanwhile, Liew said that among others, the special manifesto would take into account issues such as health, education, security and economic development.
