SEGAMAT: A 40-year-old butcher was slashed to death while he was busy chopping meat to sell for Hari Raya Haji near Felda Chemplak here.
The victim, identified as Ahmad Radzi Jamaludin, was preparing to open his roadside stall when a parang-wielding man attacked him at about 7.30am yesterday.
Segamat OCPD Supt Raub Selamat said the 45-year-old suspect rode a motorcycle to the stall and struck the victim from the back with a 95cm-long parang.
“The suspect first slashed the left side of the victim’s neck and when Ahmad Radzi tried to protect himself, the suspect struck again and hit his left hand.
“The victim who sustained severe injuries was rushed to a nearby clinic by relatives,” he said.
Ahmad Radzi succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the clinic.
Supt Raub said police detained the suspect at a house in the settlement following investigations.
“The case has been classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and the suspect will be remanded,” he said, adding that police were still investigating the motive.
A large parang as well as a Proton Iswara and a motorcycle belonging to the suspect had been seized.
Meanwhile, the victim’s sister Shabariah Jamaludin, 33, said their family home was at Felda Renong but her brother was a resident of Felda Chemplak.
“The last we met him was when he came over to our parents’ home last week to pass some groceries that he bought for them to prepare for Hari Raya Haji.
“He did not act out of the ordinary and seemed fine, and he has never had any issue with anyone,” she said.
