Person who tried to bribe Sultan for title identified
KUALA LUMPUR: The individual who tried to offer a RM2mil bribe to the Sultan of Johor to purchase a “Tan Sri” title from the Johor palace has been identified, said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
In a statement, the MACC said it had obtained the relevant information from Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar and had identified the person.
“The MACC will ensure a transparent investigation is conducted on this matter and appropriate action be taken based on the law,” the statement said.
It said that its chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad and several senior officials, has had an audience with the Sultan pertaining to the matter.
“During the meeting, MACC recorded details from the Sultan and identified the individual involved.
“MACC has assured the Sultan that investigations will be performed and the appropriate legal action be taken,” it said.
The meeting was said to have lasted for just over an hour.
Sultan Ibrahim and Dzulkifli left the place separately. Both of them declined to divulge details of their meeting.
Last Saturday, Sultan Ibrahim wrote on his official Facebook page that a person, said to be from Kuala Lumpur, allegedly offered RM2mil to suggest to the Chief Secretary to the Government the names of people for a ‘Tan Sri’ title to be conferred by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
He wrote that he was willing to meet the MACC to provide more information on the matter.
