PUTRAJAYA: A photo of a fake letter which has gone viral on social media, claimed to have been written and signed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has been denounced as an attempt to divide the Umno leadership.

Circulated mainly through WhatsApp and Facebook, the fake letter contains a request by Zahid for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to resign, and includes a list of new cabinet members under Zahid as Prime Minister.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the hoax was committed by certain quarters to split the two leaders.

"Maybe there are some parties that are uneasy with the close relationship between the prime minister and deputy prime minister. So they come out with all sorts of slander to divide them.

"(But) both leaders have no problem. I urge those who spread the fake letters to stop doing so, as it won't affect Umno," he said after attending the Putrajaya Community Ride.

Tengku Adnan, who is also Federal Territories Minister, said all Umno members have shown their unwavering support for Najib.

"Datuk Seri (Najib Razak) is a good leader who is willing to listen, solve issues of the rakyat and make improvements.

"In fact, he willingly accepts (that) our previous leaders (have made mistakes)," he said.
