GOMBAK: Police arrested a restaurant operator on Monday for allegedly raping his 15-year-old assistant multiple times since July.
Initial investigations revealed that the 41-year-old man had been using cash to lure the girl - who worked at his restaurant in Bandar Country Homes, Rawang to ease her family's financial burden.
Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Ali Ahmad said the victim was raped several times between July last year and March, in incidents said to have occurred at the suspect's house, also in Rawang.
"Investigators were told that the suspect gave the victim RM50 each time he raped her.
"The incidents only got to the knowledge of the victim's family several days ago when she finally opened up about her ordeals," he told reporters during a press conference at Orang Asli Hospital, here, earlier today.
Ali was there on an official visit in conjunction with the 209th Police Day celebration.
Following the victim's revelation, her family members and neighbours confronted the suspect on Monday evening before taking him to Gombak police headquarters.
He was immediately arrested over the alleged rape of a minor.
Ali said police have secured a seven-day remand order against the man to facilitate investigation under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
