Mini market owner fined RM5,000 for profiteering from Maggi noodles

SHAH ALAM: A mini market owner was fined RM5,000 by the Sessions Court here for failing to provide complete and accurate information pertaining to the price and cost of Maggi instant noodles.
Meera Naina Abdul Salam, 56, an Indian national, admitted to committing the offence in his capacity as company director of PP One Mini Market Sdn Bhd at 10.30am on Sept 28 last year.
He had failed to provide the information as required by a notice issued under Section 21(2)(a) of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 at the Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry in Section 14, Petaling Jaya, here.
Azahar Said from the ministry's office here lodged a complaint against Meera.
Pleading for leniency, Meera Naina said he had two wives, five children and elderly parents as dependants.
Meera Naina said it was his first offence, adding that he did not understand the notice when he received it.

Deputy Public Prosecutor A. Karthiyayini asked the Court to impose a higher fine for his offence and Sessions Court judge Ahmad Azhari Abdul Hamid fined him RM5,000, in default one months jail, for the offence.
