IPOH: Six men, believed to be members of the notorious Geng 04 gangster group, were arrested during an Ops Cantas Silver operation here last night.
In the 11pm raid at the Waller Court flats here, police also confiscated five parang and three molotov cocktails from the suspects, aged between 20 and 24.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Sum Chang Keong said the anti-gangsterism operation was held after police received a tip-off on a possible clash between gangster groups in the area.
"Police first checked a Honda Accord with five people in the area and found five parang and a molotov cocktail in the vehicle," he told a press conference here today.
Sum said police later checked a man on a motorcycle and discovered three molotov cocktails in the front basket of the machine.
He said another two suspects on motorcycles nearby tried to flee, forcing policemen to give chase.
"However, the suspects tried to attack the policemen with parang when they reached a dead end near Sungai Kinta.
"Police had to fire a warning shot but the suspects managed to escape," he said.
He said police are now looking for the two suspects while those arrested are being remanded until Friday.
