Noh Omar wants action against troublemakers at Himpun 16

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Umno chief Datuk Seri Noh Omar (pic) wants police to take action against those who had stirred trouble at the Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu on Malaysia Day.
“We are regretful over what had happened as we had directed everyone to abide by the law and instructions given by the police.
“We hope the police will take action against those who had gone against the law and also find out if it was due to provocation by certain quarters,’’ said Noh.
Two police personnel were slightly injured in a scuffle with protesters in Petaling Street during the peak of the rally on Wednesday.
The rally participants had been clearly instructed to obey the law and keep to the allowed areas and routes, Noh told reporters after handing over aid and business subsidies to the needy Thursday.
Noh, who had given a speech at the rally’s gathering point in Padang Merbok, said he too was ready to be questioned by the police if his speech was found to have incited racial sentiments.
“I will cooperate with the police. No one is above the law including me,” said Noh, adding that if his speech had been offensive, the relevant authorities had the power to investigate and charge him.
Noh also lambasted Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali for saying that he was ashamed of the red shirt rally.
Azmin had said in a statement that Malaysia Day was meant for the people to celebrate togetherness as a nation united and unified.
Instead, added Azmin, the nation “was treated to a day of infamy and shame when thousands of red shirts descended on Kuala Lumpur, to trumpet Malay supremacy, sow fear of impending violence and incite hatred against other races, particularly the Chinese”.
“Therefore, words cannot describe the sense of shame and disgust that I felt seeing Malays in red shirts – men and women alike – chanting racist slogans and expressions of contempt and hatred against the other communities,’’ Azmin had said.
Noh said Azmin should be the one ashamed for participating in the Bersih 4.0 rally on National Day.
“He is ashamed? He should be the one ashamed for participating in the illegal Bersih rally.
“And as the Mentri Besar, he should have asked the organisers to have the rally in Selangor and not in Kuala Lumpur,’’ added Noh.
