Police probe burnt Proton Perdana link to missing DPP

KUALA LUMPUR:  A burnt Proton Perdana car, the same make as the one used by missing deputy public prosecutor Kevin Morais, was found in Hutan Melintang on Saturday.
Morais has not been seen since he left his Menara Duta home for work on Friday morning.

City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad said it was too early to confirm if the burnt car had any connection to the DPP's dissapearance.

"All I can say is we found a car. Perak police are investigating it as arson. We are unable to check the chasis number or the registration plate because it was badly burnt," he said.

Morais, previously seconded to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), left his house at 9am heading towards Putrajaya in a Government-issued grey Proton Perdana bearing the registration number WA 6264 Q.

It is learnt that a friend tried contacting Morais at about 10.30am, and later at 3pm, but was unable to reach him on both occasions.

The friend tried calling his office and was informed by Morais' secretary that he did not turn up for work that day.

An MACC spokesperson said that Morais had worked with the agency for about eight years before returning to the Attorney-General's Chambers.

During his time at the MACC he brought papers on corruption investigations to court. The spokesperson said Morais was not involved in the investigations into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
