SUBANG JAYA: A high-speed chase between two robbers and police ended with the suspects shot dead 15 minutes after robbing a victim on Tuesday.
In the 11.30am incident, the suspects were about 1.5km from the scene in Taman Puchong Prima when two police cars intercepted and blocked their vehicle.
The men, armed with two parang, retaliated by charging at police after exiting their blue Honda City.
That prompted the police to fire several shots in self defense where the duo were hit.
Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah said a medical team confirmed that the suspects died on the spot.
"We received an alert that there was an armed robbery near a bank in Taman Puchong Prima.
“Our men were immediately notified to keep a lookout and not long after that, one of our patrol teams spotted the suspects' vehicle.
"I applaud the Subang Jaya police for their fast action," he said when met at the scene.
SAC Mohd Adnan said police were still determining the identity of the duo as no documents were found on them.
"Their fingerprints have been taken and sent to Bukit Aman for identification process," he said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects' vehicle was used as a getaway car in robberies.
"So far, they were involved in at least nine cases in the Klang Valley throughout 2015.
"We are still in the process of identifying their involvement in other cases outside of Selangor," he said.
Prior to the shooting, SAC Mohd Adnan said the robbers had just cornered a 39-year-old woman's vehicle before breaking the victim's passenger's side window to snatch her handbag.
The woman had just withdrawn an undisclosed sum of money at about 11.15am.
"She suffered minor injuries on her left arm and has received outpatient treatment at a nearby hospital," he said.
Police seized several fake car registration numbers, three parang and a handbag containing cash.
The case is being investigated for armed robbery and attempted murder.
