KUALA LUMPUR: The vicinity of Dataran Merdeka is still a sea of yellow, hours after the Bersih 4 rally started.
At 11pm, after a break from 6pm to 9pm, the protesters were gathering at a makeshift stage erected by organisers near the field.
They listened to speeches from opposition leaders and activists.
Although the rally was to demand election reforms, the leaders also spoke about releasing former opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from prison.
The crowd, far less than the afternoon, stretched from the Tourism and Culture Ministry building to the Masjid Jamek LRT station, some blowing air horns and vuvuzelas.
Several barricades were put up by the police and organisers to stop people from entering Dataran Merdeka the venue of the National Day celebrations on Monday.
Several protesters were seen laying out mats, cardboard boxes and sleeping bags on the road to sleep. The rally will end at midnight Sunday.
The rally will resume at about 9am Sunday with exercises and interfaith prayers.
