KUALA LUMPUR: A 26-year-old shop assistant has been remanded for allegedly handling the racially charged Papagomo Original Facebook page.
Inspector-General of Police secretariat’s assistant head (corporate communications) Asst Comm Datin Asmawati Ahmad said the man was being held at the Dang Wangi police station and was expected to be released today on police bail.
He had allegedly set up and operated the controversial Facebook page while claiming it was linked to the real Papagomo, blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, who was arrested and subsequently released for allegedly uploading false information that contributed to the Low Yat Plaza brawl.
The suspect also uploaded purported WhatsApp conversations between him and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, in which the top cop apparently solicited bribes to “settle” Papagomo’s ongoing case.
Khalid has denied the accusations, while the real Papagomo and his lawyer have been quick to distance themselves from the page.
The suspect was arrested at his Bandar University Seri Iskandar home on Wednesday.
Police also seized the handphone allegedly used to operate the page
