PETALING JAYA: Two prominent business leaders have condemned the move by the Home Ministry to ban The Edge over its reports on 1Malaysia Development Berhad.

Nazir posted a logo of The Edge on his Instagram page on Friday with the caption "The Edge is a pillar of our business community- big role in keeping us informed, honest & competitive”.
“Recent 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) coverage seem outstanding but if there were flaws then correct them or take legal recourse.
“I condemn the suspension & my thoughts go to all affected staff,” Nazir said.
AirAsia chief executive Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, among those who commented on Nazir's post, said freedom of the press is the pillar of democracy.
“There are other recourse if reporting is wrong. Sad day, I’m in shock,” Fernandes said.
The Home Ministry suspended the publishing permit of The Edge Weekly and The Edge Financial Daily for three months from July 27.
The Edge said in a statement that the suspension was due to its reporting on 1MDB.
BESTFBKL: How can the Home Ministry ban the EDGE when investigations are going on to find out if the allegations on 1MDB are true. The EDGE believes it's reporting to be true, if later on there is solid evidence that their reporting was not true then sue them in court for all the money they have. Its unbelievable that the the Home MInistry has taken this course of action while the whole world is looking. No developed country's, national security division would do this. Defending national security does not include shutting up whistleblowers in this manner. The EDGE is playing the role of the whistleblower. Why take action on the EDGE now when the investigation by the task force is ongoing. Directors are being arrested in airports, accounts are being frozen in singapore, and a company like Petrosaudi is willing to pay their ex IT staff large sums of money because all the EDGE has been saying is not true???
