SINGAPORE: A pack of stray dogs turned up at a Mexican woman's funeral - to bid her farewell in a gesture of gratitude for the kindness she had showed them.
Margarita Suarez from Yucatan state in Mexico, died on March 15 at the age of 71. Her daughter Patricia Urrutia wrote on Facebook:
"My mother was an animal lover - she couldn't come across any without giving them a little bit of food. Upon arrival at her wake, out of nowhere a group of dogs came into the salon and stayed there all night as if on guard.
"This morning they left and couldn't be found anywhere, but one hour before we brought my mom out, the dogs came back and grouped around as if to say goodbye."
Quoting Mexican news site Norte Digital, which spoke to Urrutia, BuzzFeed News reported: "She fed 20 cats every day - they weren't hers, but went to visit her home. Every time she saw a dog in the street, it meant going to her house in order to feed it."
The report added that the dogs had never been seen in the area before. Urrutia's photos of the dogs at the funeral service received almost 200,000 likes and more than 50,000 shares since March 16. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
