Student-magnet fried rice at Subang Jaya
Starting this month, the GST or goods and services tax will be imposed. If you’re wondering if this means you have to cut down on eating out, think again! The Malaysian Insider hunted down 30 food spots in high-density areas around the Klang Valley to bring you our collection of cheap and good eats. We will be revealing one for each day of the month of April.
It may look like an average plate of fried rice, but Uncle Soon’s Char Siew Fried Rice in SS15 is a massive attraction for the folks of Subang, especially college students who dominate the area’s population, due to its comparatively cheap price tag and scrumptious taste.
Each platter of golden fried rice is dressed with slices of pork, vegetables and a fried egg, and served with a saucer of ‘sambal belacan’.
The secret ingredient to the dish, which is savoury but with a sweetish accent, is the secret sauce used to fry the rice. If you’re up for a meal with more “kick”, ask for additional free ‘sambal belacan’, which goes just perfectly with the rice.
An added bonus here is serving sizes, and the generous portion of fried rice is more than enough to keep a grown man (or woman) happy. Till the next meal, of course.
The dish comes in three sizes, ‘small’ (RM6), ‘large’ (RM6.50), and ‘extra large’ (RM7).
