In a touching tribute, a group of pilots paid their last respects to the pilot of the ill-fated Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, Captain Wan Amran Wan Hussin, by carrying his coffin to the mosque upon its arrival at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) today.
Dressed in full pilot attire, more than 10 pilots, believed to be colleagues of the late Wan Amran, took over the task of shouldering the coffin from Armed Forces personnel, en route to the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque for prayers at 10.20am.
Hundreds of mourners, including family members, relatives and friends of the late pilot, were at the airport to receive his remains which arrived with the remains of eight other victims – seven Malaysians and two Dutch nationals – from Amsterdam to the Bunga Raya Complex of KLIA.
About 300 people later attended the funeral prayer led by Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque Imam (I), Mohd Hata Ahmad.
Wan Amran's remains were later buried at the Section 21 Muslim Cemetery in Shah Alam.
Flight MH17 crashed in eastern Ukraine on July 17 as it was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur with 283 passengers and 15 crew on board. The Boeing 777-200 aircraft is believed to have been shot down over the troubled country.
Forty-three Malaysians were killed in the tragedy, besides nationals from the Netherlands, Australia, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, the Philippines, Canada and New Zealand. – Bernama, September 2, 2014.
