JOHOR BARU- An alleged notorious gang leader was shot at eight times outside an entertainment outlet in Permas Jaya here, yet he survived.
M. Sasitharen, 33, was shot by two men outside the Century Bell Entertainment Centre at around 6.30am yesterday.
Sasitharen was seated inside a car parked outside the outlet when the two men approached him.
Although eight shots were fired at him from the front of the car, the victim only injured his hand and abdomen and is currently being treated at a local hospital.
Sasitharen has at least five criminal records, including for robbery and assault, and is linked to the 04 gang here.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Sulaiman Salleh said police were looking for the two male suspects.
"We urge those who may have witnessed the shooting to contact the Johor police hotline at 07-2212999 or visit the nearest police station to provide details," he added.
ACP Sulaiman added that police were investigating the case under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
He said police were investigating the motive behind the incident and would investigate the shooting from all angles.
"It is too early for us to comment further on the case."
