PEKAN: A couple and their two young children on a 'balik kampung' trip were killed when their Proton Persona crashed into an oncoming lorry at KM75 Jalan Kuantan-Segamat, near Kampung Runchang here today.
Nasrul Hafriq Nasaruddin, his wife Fara Nor Asmira Jastan, both 29, and their children, Nasr Afeef Rifqy Nasrul, 2, and Fara Adelia Adriana, aged three months, were travelling from Kuala Terengganu to their hometown in Alor Gajah Malacca in the 3pm incident.
Pekan district police chief Supt Yahaya Othman said their car skidded in the heavy downpour and hit the lorry in the opposite lane and the victims died on the spot.
He said the driver of the three-tonne lorry, who in his 40s, sustained injuries and was admitted to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) in Kuantan.
Nasrul was attached to the Bank Simpanan Nasional branch in Kuala Terengganu while his wife was a nurse at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) hospital.
Yahaya said the bodies were sent to Pekan hospital for post-mortem while the victims family members from Malacca were expected to arrivate at midnight to claims them.
He said a passerby took the lorry driver to Muadzam Shah hospital before an ambulance brought him to HTAA for treatment and he was currently reported in stable condition.
