MCA polls: Liow wins presidency, Wee is deputy
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has been elected as the new MCA president and Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong deputy president, according to unofficial results.
Other unofficial results indicate Datuk Lee Chee Leong, Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung, Datuk Chua Tee Yong and Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun are the new vice-presidents.
Liow won 1,186 votes to beat Gan Ping Sieu and Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat, who garnered 1,000 and 160 votes respectively.
Liow, 52, is a fourth-term Bentong MP and he was the deputy president prior to the polls.
Dr Wee, 45, won 1,408 votes to defeat Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai, who polled 927 votes.
Dr Wee, a third-term Ayer Hitam MP, was the MCA Youth chief.
For the vice-president posts, Lee won 1,642 votes, Dr Hou (1,475), Chua (1,343) and Chew (1,230).
Datuk Yik Phooi Hoong announced the results.
