KUALA LUMPUR: National badminton champion Cheah Liek Hou presented Malaysia with its first gold medal after winning the SU5 (physical disability) men's singles final at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, on Monday night.

The 36-year-old athlete defeated Indonesian badminton player Suryo Nugroho in straight sets 21-13, 21-15 at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena.

It thus repeated its achievement during the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.


In the action full of energy, the number one SU5 men's singles player in the world had no difficulty in defeating Suryo.

Liek Hou advanced to the final after an easy win over Indonesian player Dheva Antrimusthi 21-17, 21-17 in the semi-final action.

Meanwhile, another national badminton champion, Muhammad Fareez Anuar, did not manage to win a medal after losing in the bronze medal fight in the SU5 men's singles (physical disability), a while ago.

Fareez, who made his debut at the world's biggest sports event, lost to Indonesian player Dheva Anrimusthi 21-17, 19-21, and 12-21.
